A curated assortment of books and articles relating to travel, adventure, photography or some combination of the three.
Photography: Technique
First Light by Joe Cornish. A collection of works illustrating and explaining the dramatic effects of lighting conditions, how they related to landscape photography, and the importance of incorporating them into your work. I especially like that Joe provides a list of equipment and settings used to capture each image – it serves as a handy reference, although it’s not the main theme of the book, of course. This particular book is no longer in print but the hardcover is still widely available from resellers on Amazon and AbeBooks with ISBN #978-1902538242.
Photography: Portfolio
Afghanistan by Steve McCurry. A lavish, large-format presentation of portraits spanning over forty years.
Travel and Adventure
Alastair Humphreys
Moods of Future Joys: Around the World by Bike – Part 1 An inspiring, globetrotting adventure from a man who decided that cycling around the world wasn’t quite enough, and who proceeded to row across the Atlantic Ocean, amongst other outings. An epic trip in the truest sense of the word, this first book covers Alastair’s journey through Europe and down to the Southern tip of Africa.
Thunder and Sunshine: Around the World by Bike – Part 2 Covering the journey home, the second part of this tale picks up at the tip of South America and heads due North before heading West across parts of Asia and through the fearsome Siberian winter!
